June Enrichment: Barksville Hosts the World Woof Cup
Why enrichment? Enrichment gives dogs an outlet for their natural instincts (sniffing, searching, solving) and works their brain, not just their legs. A few minutes of sniff-and-search or puzzle work takes real effort, so dogs go home happily tired: body exercised, brain satisfied, confidence a little bigger. How our enrichment works
In June 2026, Metro Animals daycare dogs in Fort Worth and Plano started the World Woof Cup, a four-week soccer-themed enrichment adventure with snack sniffing games, mural making, agility ladder work and one-on-one coach time.
The favorites were New York, Paris, Milan and London. So when the host city of the 2026 Canine Woof Cup was drawn out of the hat and it turned out to be little old Barksville, it came as a bit of a shock. The town had applied, of course. It just never expected to get it.

The story
It may be overshadowed by a certain human tournament held at the same time, but the Woof Cup is the biggest sporting event of the dog year, and it only comes around once every 28 dog years. Barksville threw a huge party to celebrate. Then the confetti settled, and the town realized how much work lay ahead: an opening ceremony and a grand final half-time show to organize in just a few weeks.
A preparation committee got straight down to business. The opening ceremony would show off the town’s rich and storied history with an interpretive group dance, a rendition of the national anthem and the unveiling of a painted mural of Barksville’s greatest triumphs. Meanwhile the woof-ball superstars were on their way, from Germany’s Manuel Nibbler to Spain’s Lamine Ya-Malinois and England’s Harry Kong, and as the host town it was up to Barksville to put them through their paces before the first matches.
That is where our daycare dogs come in. First they find their own positions: the best catchers in goal, the fastest on the wings, the toughest and most resourceful in defense. Then they help train the superstars for the grandest stage of them all.
What the weeks hold
- Week 1: Training begins — drills to find every dog’s best position, and the build-up to the opening ceremony.
- Week 2: A mystery shakes Barksville — the Jack Russell Trophy vanishes, and the pups put their speed, focus and problem-solving to the test.
- Week 3: An unexpected turn — a ransom note arrives, and the clues point to the infamous Chaos Cats.
- Week 4: The trophy is found — final evaluations, and the trophy recovered just in time for the championship match.
Week 1: Training Begins
Our Woof Cup enrichment kicked off on June 1, and the All-Stars pulled on their jerseys, grabbed their gear and started training with their teams. With the opening ceremony on the way, the week’s enrichment menu got every player ready:
- The Opening Ceremony Fuel-Up — fueling up like professional athletes, with snacks spread around the stadium to sniff out.
- The Barksville Mural Creation — the dogs help create something special to represent their town.
- The Formation Challenge — learning to follow structure and positioning.
- The Coaches Connection Session — dedicated one-on-one time with a daycare coach to build trust and confidence.
- The Player Agility Ladder — the start of each dog’s individual fitness preparation.

Practice was about more than technique. The dogs worked on agility and obedience with their coaches, plus the manners and sportsmanship every good teammate needs. The players made banners for their favorite teams, rehearsed their winning poses and celebration dances, and by the end of the week we had even found a keeper.
