Metro Animals started as self-serve pet-wash tubs 21 years ago, and everything we’ve built since runs on the same idea: regular, unglamorous upkeep — bath, coat, ears, nails, teeth — is what keeps your four-legged family member comfortable, healthy, and ready to play. The nose-to-tail routine: five things every dog needs kept up

Bath & skin

Regular baths keep skin healthy and let a trained team member put hands on your whole dog — the fastest way to catch hot spots, lumps, fleas, and irritation early. Most dogs do well on a bath every four to six weeks; dogs who swim, roll, or live their best outdoor life may want one more often.

Coat & de-shedding

Brushing and de-shedding treatments (we use the Furminator) pull out dead undercoat before it mats, keep skin breathing under a double coat, and dramatically cut down on the fur tumbleweeds at home. Seasonal coat blows in Texas are real — spring and fall are the big ones.

Ears

Floppy ears, swimming dogs, and allergy-prone pups all collect wax and moisture, and that’s how ear infections start. A routine ear cleaning keeps the canal clear — and a team member who cleans ears every day will notice redness or odor long before it becomes a vet bill.

Nails

Overgrown nails aren’t cosmetic — they change how a dog stands and walks, and over time that stresses joints. If you can hear your dog clicking across the floor, it’s time. Most dogs need a trim every three to four weeks.

Teeth

Dental disease is one of the most common health problems in adult dogs. Routine teeth brushing between veterinary cleanings slows plaque and keeps breath tolerable for the humans who get the goodnight kisses.
