Barksville Blizzard, Week 3: The Barksville Super Center

Why enrichment? Enrichment gives dogs an outlet for their natural instincts (sniffing, searching, solving) and works their brain, not just their legs. A few minutes of sniff-and-search or puzzle work takes real effort, so dogs go home happily tired: body exercised, brain satisfied, confidence a little bigger. How our enrichment works

In week 3 of Barksville Blizzard (November 2025), Metro Animals daycare dogs in Fort Worth and Plano hunted treats in a supermarket set, wove through an obstacle course, sniffed mystery cups and showed off checkout tricks.

The Barksville saga continued. With snow swirling outside, the dogs turned shopping into a high-speed scent adventure, racing to snag decorations and supplies before the storm buried the shelves. And the mystery? Still unsolved.

Our Pack Leaders turned daycare into a sniff-tastic supermarket, the new Barksville Super Center, complete with a fruit and veg market and a little shopping cart for our shoppers.

What the dogs did

  • Trolley dash treat hunt: just like a supermarket sweep, dogs navigated aisles of boxes, baskets and hidden treats, racing the clock to sniff out the goodies.
  • Blizzard Aisle Obstacle Course: cones, poles and low platforms blocked the way while tinsel swirled from a fan, and each pup wove, dodged and dashed to the hidden treats.
  • Price Tag Cup Game: hidden “supplies” sat under mystery cups for each pup to sniff, paw or nudge to the right one. In Plano, Nori and Wojtek searched through cups and obstacles for every treat, and looked very proud of themselves.
  • Trolley Push Challenge: a nose or a paw nudged a shopping basket forward, one heroic push at a time, moving supplies home through the storm.
  • Checkout routine: with their Pack Leaders as partners, the shoppers “paid” with a quick trick combo (sit, paw, spin, touch), and every tail wag was celebrated like a victory dance at the register. Andrew and Anna showed off their checkout partner tricks, and Nash did a stellar job.

The Barksville ice bucket group enrichment was back, too.

Then, on Thursday, breaking news: the Barksville Yeti had entered the building. Rumor had it he had been hiding supplies and stirring up snowstorms — and maybe, just maybe, he was ready to join the fun.
