Barksville Blizzard, Week 2: The Harvest Drive

Why enrichment? Enrichment gives dogs an outlet for their natural instincts (sniffing, searching, solving) and works their brain, not just their legs. A few minutes of sniff-and-search or puzzle work takes real effort, so dogs go home happily tired: body exercised, brain satisfied, confidence a little bigger. How our enrichment works

In week 2 of Barksville Blizzard (November 2025), Metro Animals daycare dogs in Fort Worth and Plano foraged for hidden treats in a snuffle box, joined a scent scavenger hunt and sniffed through donated blankets and towels.

In Barksville, the Yeti was still missing. So the town’s paws united for good: the Barksville Harvest Drive asked everyone to share the harvest, with blankets, towels and food for shelter dogs through the end of November, to keep every shelter pup cozy while the Yeti mystery unfolded.

Then the harvest arrived, and with it a clue: a tuft of white fur in the cornucopia. The Yeti was still out there, and our pups were called in to help sniff out the truth.

Kelly even sent us a letter from Barksville, grateful for the Cornucopia Snuffle box: all of Kelly’s favorite tasty snacks are in there, there are so many scents, and it makes going home hard. Kelly never wants to stop snuffling.

What the dogs did

  • Cornucopia Snuffle: playful paws foraged for hidden treats in autumn-inspired textures. Sniff, find, give.
  • Harvest Token Hunt: a scent scavenger hunt that put every sniffer to work.
  • Harvest Haul Relay: with Hank and Nash as the relay players, proof that training can be fun.
  • Harvest Gratitude Walk: even simple skills can be a blast for pups and Pack Leaders alike. On his gratitude walk, Bentley focused on sit, stand and basic recall.
  • Sensory activity: the donated blankets and towels became an activity of their own. Zilla and Bentley loved it — so much to smell.

How to join the next adventure

Enrichment is an add-on to any daycare day at Metro Animals — ask for it at drop-off, by the day, the week or the whole month. It’s part of the program that earned us the highest score in the country at the 2024 Dog Gurus Daycare Games. Read more about how our enrichment works, and if your pup is new to the pack, find your nearest location — every new dog’s first day is free.
