March Enrichment: Around the World in 28 Sniffs
Why enrichment? Enrichment gives dogs an outlet for their natural instincts (sniffing, searching, solving) and works their brain, not just their legs. A few minutes of sniff-and-search or puzzle work takes real effort, so dogs go home happily tired: body exercised, brain satisfied, confidence a little bigger. How our enrichment works
In March 2026, Metro Animals daycare dogs in Fort Worth and Plano started Around the World in 28 Sniffs, a month-long world-travel enrichment adventure with scent trails, a scent scavenger hunt, sensory snuffle trays, obedience training and bubbles.
In March, the dogs of Barksville got to see the world without ever leaving town. Their explorer friend Phineas Dogg gathered new scents and activities from across the globe so every pup could see and smell it all from the comfort of home. Bags packed, noses ready — first stop: London.
Around the World in 28 Sniffs ran at Metro Animals in Fort Worth and Plano, with the journey unfolding one stop at a time.
What the trip held
- Week 1: The journey begins — the airport, the Departure Trail, story time and explorer training.
- Week 2: The Mediterranean — sea-breeze street strolls, a busy market full of smells and a pile of mixed-up packages.
- Week 3: The Barksville Detectives — Phineas Dogg is wrongly suspected of taking things from a site he visited, and the dogs gather the evidence to clear his name.
Week 1: The Journey Begins
Every big trip starts with getting there, so the first week was all about the journey: finding the gate, learning the routine and training up like a real explorer.

- Finding the gate — the dogs searched the airport for their departure gate, following natural scents like pheasant and antler bone that had been rubbed onto different surfaces with wax scent sticks. A wild scent scavenger hunt from start to finish.
- The Departure Trail — a short scent trail made with our training scents that winds gently through the space to a clear end point. Each dog follows it at their own pace while we walk behind, celebrating their progress. Got a dog who pulls like a freight train on walks? Often it’s a nose that hasn’t had enough work: when dogs get to use their noses, they slow down, focus and relax.
- A stroll around town — ambient nature sounds, natural scents and plenty of different textures made it feel just like downtown, ending with an all-natural sensory snuffle tray at the city park.
- Story time — a calming social enrichment where the pups got comfortable and heard the history of Phineas Dogg, the great Barksville explorer who traveled the world to bring its smells home to Barksville.
- Explorer training — weaving, basic obedience and hidden treat snuffles to sharpen the senses and work on agility, all to follow in the footsteps of the great explorer.
- Phineas’ Perfect Routine — simple patterns to follow, with rewards for calm focus. These structured brain games teach dogs to pause, think and control their impulses, which is exactly what a dog who leaps on guests at the front door needs to practice.
- Bubbles — sometimes for chasing, sometimes just for calmly watching them float and fall.
The wax scent sticks were new this month, and they make scent games easy to use and easy to clean up on any surface.
In Plano, Jamie nailed one stop on the world tour, and Princess Alice lived her best life with the around-the-world enrichment.
