Metro Animals is dedicated to providing an environment that promotes the health, safety, emotional well-being, and social needs of dogs in our care.
Wynton is a Weim/ Pointer mix who was rescued from a shelter outside Austin, Tx. It was love at first sight when we spotted his face among hundreds on Petfinder.com over three years ago. He had a rough start with a few health issues, but he has triumphed to become the sparkle of our eyes. His favorite activities are rough-housing with his sister, Ella, playing ball for hours on end, and whipping rope toys around till they are no longer recognizable.
Ella has a similar story. She was left at the Humane Society as a puppy because it was thought she and her litter mates were deaf. We wanted to provide a good home for a challenged dog who may have otherwise been skipped over. After a few weeks with us, it became obvious that she wasn't deaf, but must have been extremely scared or shy at the shelter. She is in her second year with us and has become a real dog's dog among her daycare dog friends.
Charlsye has been a neurotic animal lover from as far back as she can remember. In addition to her pet dogs and cats, there were possums, snakes, birds, hamsters, and yes, even spiders. As an idealistic high-schooler, she was so distraught over the daily tragedy of squirrels being run over by cars on her street, that she actually petitioned the city council for a "squirrel-crossing" sign to be put up by the city. And the funny thing is-she was successful! While the sign didn't last long, her love of animals only grew stronger.
One memorable mutt in her life was a stray she adopted named Tipsy. He was a true Texan who loved to eat jalapenos. Who knows how this tradition started, but Tipsy would beg for a raw pepper whenever the family would make chili or jalapeno cornbread. He would bark at it, growl, run around his bowl, and finally eat it, to the amazement of everybody in the room!
The two long-time loves of her life were Bear and Rodney- two Keeshonds with exactly opposite personalities. They were a dynamic duo that kept Charlsye on her toes for nearly twenty years, and to whom she dedicates Metro Animals.
Charlsye's original career ambitions focused on becoming a veterinarian. She maintained a position as a veterinary technician throughout high school. The summer before starting college at Texas Christian University, she was delighted to have been chosen for an intensive summer veterinary clinic at Texas A&M University's College of Veterinary Medicine.
Ultimately, her ambitions led her in the direction of Metro Animals and the service of Fort Worth dogs and their busy owners. Charlsye has her master's degree from TCU and was also recently honored by the Business and Professional Women of Fort Worth as a notable Female Native American Entrepreneur.
Take one look at the scars on Marcus' hands and you will begin to understand his love of animals - one baby Blue Front Amazon parrot in particular. In the process of training this seemingly schizophrenic addition to the family, Marcus endured just a few love bites. His endless patience overcame any frustration with Odie, and they have since formed a lifelong bond going on 17 years.
Marcus loves nothing more than spending time in the company of feathered and furry companions. His ability to understand animals makes him indispensable to the canine customers at Metro Animals. Marcus has called Fort Worth his home for over 15 years, pursuing degrees at TCU and UTD, living and working in the area. He welcomes the opportunity to get to know all the special dogs living in and around Fort Worth.
In Andria's view, watching dogs play is one of the most relaxing things in the world. As a PhD candidate in anthropology working to finish her dissertation and an adjunct professor at TCU, she needs all the relaxation she can get. That's why working at Metro Animals Depot and Daycare for Dogs isn't "work." It's play time for her, too! Andria is a lifelong animal lover. She was literally raised in a zoo! Her father worked at the Fort Worth Zoo, so she spent many summer days hanging out with her animal friends. Some of her favorite childhood companions were Jered, the baby orangutan, Babe, the elephant, and Leo, the tailless tiger. Her first job was at the zoo-she was an assistant teacher in Zoo School classes. Although raised with cats, Andria is a self-proclaimed "dog person", and got her first dog as soon as she had her own home. She now shares her heart and her home with a bouncy, hyper, 6 year old, loveable mutt named Tucker.
Chrisi can officially claim the title of lifelong animal lover. Working in veterinary hospitals since she was only 15 years old, Chrisi discovered a love of animal behavior and communication. She graduated Texas A&M University in 2000 with a degree in Animal Behavior, and accepted an internship training dolphins on the coast of Florida the following year. Chrisi missed her "four-legged" friends too much, and returned to Texas to continue a career as a veterinary technician and practice manager. She believes Metro Animals is a perfect fit for her, and can't wait to meet each member of Charlsye's family of dogs! "Dogs have always been so special to me growing up. They are as unique and soulful as children, and need all of the same attention, understanding, and room to express themselves."
